MARATHI MANOOS !!!!

Interesting thing happened yesterday, I was whining over phone to my mom ,about how I am not able to speak my mother tongue ‘Marathi’. Rather I was complaining to my mom that I am not able to express myself clearly and lucidly when I spoke in marathi. Usually not being a cry baby, I usually don’t whine a lot and whenever I do it has to do with my life or destiny and not about my qualities and abilities .,what to say , I have thing called ‘Ego’ filled right upto rim. Between my mom responded in her usual classic way, reiterating that it was what so ever not my fault and reasoning that it doesn’t matter whether I am able to speak Marathi properly or not till the time I am able to speak English fluently when no one other in family couldn’t .

I always knew that I am not able to properly speak in Marathi but it was just this time that I was able to exactly pinpoint the flaw that I was rather not able to express my feelings in my mother tongue ‘Marathi’. This completely explain the "reviews" about myself I get from maharastrain girls .

More so, people even say that I don’t look like a maharastrian by features and futhur my surname “choudhary” doesn’t help the cause. Nevertheless is not that I don’t intent to speak my mother tongue fluently and flawlessly. And mind you it’s not something I am proud of (not able to speak Marathi) but earnest efforts are needed to be made from my side. And this time I think want to do it.

Saas Bahu aur Sensex

Usually i never go out to watch bollywood movies because may be unconsciously i know that i would turn out to torture which I have voluntarily opted for and more so heftily paid for . Infact earlier I used to reject invitation for going to multiplex to watch bollywood movies by giving argument that " I have promised my self that i would watch Bollywood movie in multiplex only in company of a girl ". But soon my friends caught my lie and made me realize that this resolution of mine would never see the light of the day. Its not that i didn't knew this earlier but i was buying myself time before I would give away this "self imposed restriction of mine". So i started watching hindi movies in theater but kept the numbers to minimum
Last month while returning from our IMS test center , few of my friends decided to watch movie " A wednesday " or "The wednesday " whatever it is . Earlier I resisted the temptation to watch movie but agreed to accompany them at least up to Mehul Multiplex which is on our way back and from there I would have embarked my further journey . So I was there there with them at theater nad it turned out that the 'Wednesday' show was slotted for 6 pm and they(we) had to stay there and some how pass 3 hrs as we had reached Mehul at 3 pm itself .
So came the dreaded idea and unfortunately it was my brain's child . I suggested that my friends that why don't they watch a 3 o clock show of some another movie .They already had strong resolve to watch 'Wednesday' so they quickly agreed to it but along with it they began pestering me to watch this show along with them .As earlier innumerable times i have turned down there request/proposal whatever one would call it , this time I had to give in to there demand and also I didnt wanted to be branded as " unsocializable".
We had two movies to choose from 'Saas Bahu Sensex' and 'Welcome to Sajjanpur' . Now as both didnt mattered much to them they left it to my discretion to buy the tickets for which ever movie I want. After having glance at the promotional posters and the kind of crowd which was buying the tickets for that particular movie , i decided to go for 'Saas Bahu and Sensex '. Reason being its cast included Tanushree Dutta so there was scope for viewing some skin and also i reasoned out with my self that 'Saas Bahu SENSEX' might have sen"SEX" appeal. But contrary to my euphoriawhich I had build up, it turn out to be dull affair .Movie had nothing in it to watch for as i dont want to turn this blog into a film review i would not rather go into details. Many times during movie I could not suffer the agony and tried to dose off but my "cruel" friends didnt allowed me this solace too.So there i was in the theater helplessly suffering for 3 hours at the hand of Saass and Bahus ,deprived of fun , pleasure ,sleep more so deprived of Sunday's freedom ( Have a job ..only Sunday is off ). Thats not the end of it , further salt was rubbed when on reaching township my flatmate asked me about the story of the movie and I could not rather I realised there was nothing in the movie so that it can be narrated .Wonder what reputed film house like Warner Bros had heard as story plot while financing this movie.

End of an era

'Era' - as defined in dictionary as ' a period of history' but for me the era which i am talking about ,the era which i am blogging down is ' Era ' - "brief but most significant period of my history/life. 'Era' - my 5 year stay at IIT Bombay.
It all begins with sense of pride and arrogance when you qualify JEE and enter into the iits .But no sooner the academic calender starts, the vicious circle of classes and labs begin the cursing and cribbing begins ,still whenever one is outside the campus which in junior years are really rare occasions the arrogance resurfaces. This is what is constant throught the 4 years and 5 years if you opted for dual degree.
Rather 5 years stay at IITB for dual degree students can be divided into two phases. First 1st year to 4th year and second 5th year or popularly known as DD year ,this is more or less synonymous to 'vanvas' and 'agyatvas' suffered by pandavas. As stated the period upto 4th year are spent by constantly complaining regarding hectic lab and lecture schedule and heavy workload of studies and ironically the second phase i.e. DD year is spent complaining about absence of any substantial work to do. Boredom and inactivity sets in to such an extend that people ofen engage in heated discussions on foolish and insignificant topics. Though discussions in corridors ,at canteen or coffee shack has been story of our stay at IIT but the topics & arguments given for/against the topis discussed during the DD year distinguishly stand out alone. I would have loved to quote these topics and it would even help add humour to blog but i what to say I feel rather too embarrased about these stupidities now.
Initial period of DD year is filled with anxiety about the impending placements though there spurts of activities in between like trekking, hockey & cricket matches and treats ofcourse but overall bearing these spurts it was rather dull affair. While Dual Degree project which is rather primary responsibity is put on hold, now this is because its not on priority list uptil the placements are done with. But this is only half story, Dual Degree project is still not on priority list even after the placemnets are over because euphoria and frenzy for celebrations and treats takes over. This is the time when one realizes that dawn on student life is near and peolpe begin to think more professionally about there careers and future plans.
Thats it this is how much i could write while attending my TFC (technical foundation course) training program for new joinees at Relaince ,which in turn rather turn out to be fruitful as i could blog down my 'end of an era'

Reservation against Reservations

With the recent SC verdict the contentious OBC reservation issue have again come into lime light. Without going into controversy and entering into the debate regarding merits/demerits of reservation policy or for that sake real motivation of our political leader, the point i want to convey is that sudden surge in number of seats in higher educational institutes .With the increasing population and improving economy there was always shortage of talent and both government as well as these autonomous institutes where either reluctant to increase seats or were lethargic in doing the same but the strong public reactions which the announcement of this reservation policy brought up hasten the process of increasing overall seats in these institutes of higher education.Like the WWII brought the spurt in research and development of science ,thought the research was going on before war itself but the war hasten the development activities as war meant working on knife edge and humans have always known to work well and be more productive when under pressure(eg Nuclear science,Aerodynamics etc).We have seen how immensely the science have benefited and changed our lives as if today.Similarly the increase in seats in educational institutes (the decision which have been taken by govt under public pressure) would churn out engg and doctors which would quicken up the progress and development in India .
